An attempted attack on a Court of Appeal judge’s residence in Kumasi was successfully foiled by the judge’s police bodyguard, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.
The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, around 11:30 p.m., when Patrick Alor (23) and Akwasi Gyamfi (21) allegedly climbed the fence of the judge’s home in what appeared to be a robbery attempt. The suspects were reportedly armed with cutlasses and scissors and attempted to break into the judge’s private vehicle.
The judge’s police bodyguard on duty noticed the suspicious activity and intervened immediately. As the suspects resisted and tried to disarm him, the officer fired his weapon in self-defense, grazing both men in the legs. The swift action prevented further escalation and potentially saved the judge and others in the residence from harm.
The two suspects were taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for treatment under police custody. Authorities have praised the bodyguard for his vigilance and professionalism, highlighting his role in averting a serious attack.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the officer and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly. Investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine whether the attack was part of a larger criminal plan.
The case underscores the importance of security measures for judicial officers and the critical role of trained personnel in protecting public officials and maintaining safety.
