Arsenal Thrash Manchester City 3-0 to Win Community Shield

Arsenal have started the 2026/27 season with silverware after defeating Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield in Cardiff on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

The Premier League champions produced a dominant display against City, with Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz and captain Martin Ødegaard getting on the scoresheet.

Arsenal made a stunning start to the game when Calafiori opened the scoring just 24 seconds after kick-off. The defender finished from Myles Lewis-Skelly’s delivery to give Mikel Arteta’s side an early advantage.

The early goal unsettled Manchester City, who struggled to create clear opportunities as Arsenal maintained control of the contest.

Kai Havertz then doubled Arsenal’s lead before the break, putting the Gunners in a strong position heading into the second half.

Arsenal continued to look dangerous after the restart and eventually extended their advantage through Ødegaard. The captain’s goal completed a convincing 3-0 victory for Arteta’s team.

The result gives Arsenal an early trophy and provides a major confidence boost ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The victory also marks their second Community Shield triumph in three years.

For Manchester City, the defeat represents a disappointing start to the competitive tenure of new manager Enzo Maresca. The former Chelsea boss was unable to inspire a response as his team struggled to match Arsenal’s intensity.

Arsenal’s performance will also increase expectations around the club as they prepare to defend their Premier League title. Arteta’s players demonstrated attacking quality, defensive organisation and a strong desire to begin the season on a positive note.

The Community Shield victory therefore gives Arsenal more than just another trophy. It sends an early warning to their domestic rivals that the Gunners intend to remain among the leading contenders during the new campaign.

Manchester City, meanwhile, will have to regroup quickly as Maresca looks to improve his side before the Premier League season gets underway.

For Arsenal supporters, however, the 3-0 victory provides an encouraging start to what could be another ambitious season.
