The police in Accra on Thursday, 25 October 2018 arrested Mr Eric Tetteh, the spokesperson of the Concerned Teacher Trainees, who spoke and demonstrated against the teacher licensure examination.

Mr Tetteh was picked up by the Legon police at the High Court after the same court adjourned a case that the newly-trained teachers had filed in connection with the implementation of the licensure exams.

The group is praying the court to cancel the licensure examination introduced by the National Teaching Council (NTC).

Mr Tetteh was arrested in connection with the alleged leakage of the licensure exam questions.

The paper was written on 10 September 2018 despite protests by the teachers.

Fourteen newly-trained teachers who sat for the examination were arrested for their roles in the alleged leakage of the questions.

According to the NTC, teachers will now have to pass the licensure examination before being granted the licence to teach.

The move, according to the NTC, is to enforce discipline and eliminate non-performing teachers from the system, in accordance with the new Teachers Licencing Policy under Education Act 778 (2008).
