AMMA begins gargantuan demolition exercise after floods claim 5 lives

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has begun massive demolition exercise after last Thursday’s downpour which claimed five t lives at Asabi junction and Aboabo both within municipality of Ashanti region.

Shop owners and traders at Asabi junction and Sisaala Line in Asokore Manpong municipality are being directed by the assembly to pack all their belongings to pave way for demolition exercise to begin today  Thursday July 5, 2018.

The demolition exercise is to ensure all buildings in water ways are cleared, in order to prevent future flooding.

However, traders and shop owners at Asabi junction and Sisaala Line are complaining of the absence of a relocating plan for them.

“We are actually confused, we don’t even know where they want us to go,  not all of us that are in water ways yet they are telling us to move from here without telling us where they are taking us to” traders and shop owners lamented.

According to some traders and shop owners at Asabi junction and other flood prone areas, the municipal chief executive of Asokore Manpong Alidu Seidu has ordered them to leave the area for demolition exercise to be carried out.

Meanwhile, the traders and shop owners at Asabi junction and Sisaala Line in Sawaba have resolved to petition the municipal chief executive Alidu Seidu against the order of demolition exercise which is expected to start tomorrow.

Sawaba, Aboabo, Anloga, Kwadaso, Tafo, Sepe, Boukrom, Airport- roundabout and Asabi have been flooded, with a number of houses submerged following last Thursday’s downpour.

Consequently, Ashanti regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah, minister of housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, Mayor of Kumasi,  Osei Assibey Antwi, Asokore Manpong municipal chief executive, Alidu Seidu, together with some members of parliament on Monday July 2, 2018 began touring some flooded areas within the region.
