The Deputy Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has denied allegations that he is working against the chiefs and people of Nkoranza in their effort to have the town named as the capital of the newly-created Bono East Region.

According to the chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Mr Korsah is working for Techiman, where he hails from, to be named as the capital.

According to the chiefs, Nkoranza has a lot of advantages including its central location and close proximity to almost all towns in the new region than Techiman.

The chiefs alleged at a press conference on Monday, 11 February 2019 that the government sidelined Nkoranza from a meeting with the traditional leaders and District Chief Executives at Techiman on Thursday and, so, they perceive a well-orchestrated plan to sideline Nkoranza in the naming of a regional capital.

Reacting to these claims on Class91.3FM’s 505 news analysis programme on Monday, 11 February 2019, Mr Korsah told Valentina Ofori-Afriyie that: “I don’t do that [kind of] discussion. I don’t make that decision [of selecting a regional capital]. It’s not my decision to make, so, all the attacks on me, the fabrications about me are just unfortunate, absolutely unfortunate, and I’m restraining myself because I’m a public officer. I need to speak with decorum, otherwise, I would have had to throw things back.

“It is not fair to do these things. If you are not seeing things too clearly with your way of having a capital, you don’t fabricate things and put out things that do not exist.

“All kinds of things that haven’t taken place have been put out on a paper and thrown around as a statement. That our ministry met people and one traditional area was not involved, that activity never happened, there is no such activity, never, where chiefs have been invited to a place and have been given pickups, it never happened.”

“That particular activity of we meeting chiefs and giving pickups, where they were not invited never happened. There are two more things they said which never happened. Why is anybody doing that, why are they doing this?” he quizzed.
