Tema High Court adjourns Agradaa, Empress Gifty’s case

The Tema High Court A, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Janet Anima Maafo, on Wednesday adjourned the defamation case filed by gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye against Patricia Oduro, popularly known as Agradaa.

Madam Oduro, who is currently serving a 15-year jail term at Nsawam Prison, was absent from court but was represented by her husband, Mr Angel Asiamah. She is expected to reappear before the court on October 10, 2025.

Mrs Adorye sued Agradaa in May 2025 for defamation, demanding GH₵20 million in damages for allegedly tarnishing her image through false claims and social media allegations.

Wednesday’s adjournment was due to a new application filed by Agradaa’s legal team seeking to amend her entry of appearance, citing a change in her permanent place of abode following her incarceration.

Speaking to the media, Agradaa’s lawyers explained that since the defendant now resides in a different region, legal procedure requires a change in court jurisdiction. They requested the case be transferred to the Eastern Region to ease the process of transporting her to court.

Counsel for Mrs Adorye confirmed the development but accused the defence of attempting to delay the trial. He stressed that the plaintiff’s legal team would oppose the motion, arguing the case should remain at the Tema High Court.

The court granted the defendant the opportunity to move the application on the new adjourned date.
