40-Year-Old Suspected Thief Beaten to Death by Mob in Takoradi

A 40-year-old man, identified as Kofi Dagati, was reportedly beaten to death by an angry mob at Takoradi Circle after being accused of repeated theft in the area. The incident has sparked concern among residents and raised questions about mob justice in the community.

According to eyewitnesses, Dagati was attacked after local residents claimed he was a serial thief responsible for multiple theft incidents. Frustrated by the ongoing crimes, the crowd reportedly took matters into their own hands, resulting in fatal injuries to the suspect.

The Ghana Police Service has not yet released detailed statements on the incident, but such cases typically prompt investigations to determine responsibility and ensure justice is served. Authorities are expected to look into the circumstances that led to the mob attack and whether any legal violations occurred during the altercation.

Residents of Takoradi expressed shock at the violent outcome, with many highlighting the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands. While frustration over repeated thefts is understandable, police and legal experts emphasise that due process should always be followed to prevent further tragedy.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about security and community safety in urban areas. Police officers continue to encourage residents to report criminal activity promptly and to allow law enforcement to handle suspected offenders, rather than resorting to violent means.

Investigations are ongoing, and the Ghana Police Service is expected to release further updates regarding the case. Community members are calling for increased patrols and proactive measures to deter thefts and maintain peace in the area.
