4 Soldiers Arrested Over Attempted Illegal Installation of Chief in Awutu Senya

Authorities have arrested four members of the Ghana Armed Forces for allegedly trying to install a new chief unlawfully in the Awutu Senya West District.

According to reports, the suspects attempted to bypass customary procedures and install a chief without the approval of local traditional authorities and kingmakers, sparking alarm among residents. Police acted swiftly following intelligence reports and a tip-off from community leaders.

The four soldiers are now in custody and assisting the police with ongoing investigations. Residents welcomed the arrests, emphasizing the importance of respecting traditional governance systems and maintaining peace within the community.

Local elders warned against military interference in chieftaincy matters, stressing that such disputes must be handled strictly according to customary laws. The Ghana Armed Forces has not issued an official comment on the arrests.

This incident underscores the need to maintain clear boundaries between military authority and traditional leadership structures, ensuring that the autonomy of local institutions is protected.
