Galamsey fight: Change the approach else you’ll fail – Kennedy Agyapong to Akufo-Addo

Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, has advised government to alter its approach in dealing with the menace of illegal small scale mining else it will fail.

According to the Assin Central MP, the use of force which is currently the case with the burning of excavators will make no lasting impact if the communities are not involved.

He urged the government to engage all stakeholders including the affected communities and sensitize them on the need to protect Ghana’s natural resources.

“With all due respect, Mr President change the approach because it won’t work. They are applying force but if you don’t conscientize the people (so) that they will be part of the reclamation and be paid some amount, it won’t work. We should engage all the communities and let them know that their lives are under threat as well. I feel the government should engage the communities,” he said on Net2 TV.

Kennedy Agyapong also took a swipe at NPP bigwigs involved in galamsey, accusing them of making President Akufo-Addo and his administration unpopular in the eyes of the public.

He warned them to regularize their activities and undertake environment friendly mining else he will expose them.

“There is one guy called Donald. I took him to court and he lost but he is still in the forest doing galamsey. He’s being backed by NPP bigwigs. I thought I was helping the president but the guy has NPP figures backing him.

“We are destroying our water bodies because of money. They think they have power but power is temporal. I will take them on. We can’t watch on as this guy destroys the country.”

Kennedy Agyapong noted that whiles the majority of Ghanaians have bought into the government’s anti-galamsey drive, its own members are crippling it to protect their interest.

“When it comes to galamsey, the NPP members are greedy bastards. I have warned them that if anyone dares me I will expose them. We cannot allow that to happen. The hope Ghanaians have in President Akufo-Addo, we the followers are trying to make him unsuccessful but we have to help him succeed.

“I don’t think Akufo-Addo is thinking of himself at his age with the ban on illegal mining. He is thinking about the country. Posterity will judge this man that even when his own people were against him, he stood firm,” he said.

• Prophet Eric Amponsah has pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Nathan Kofi Boakye as IGP

• According to Computer Man, COP Kofi Boakye has the capacity to deal with crime-related activities recorded in the country

• He made the appeal while sharing his views on recent crimes witnessed in Ghana

The Founder and Leader of Hope Generation Ministry, Prophet Eric Amponsah, has made a passionate appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Nathan Kofi Boakye as the next Inspector General of Police.

Speaking in an interview with Oman Channel sighted by Ghanaweb, Prophet Amponsah touted the Head of Research and Planning for the Police Service as the only person viable of leading a police service capable of dealing with the recent rise in crimes.

“I will appeal to the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danwka Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Kofi Boakye as IGP. Maybe COP Kofi Boakye between 2014 and 2016 supervised some arrests in the Ashanti Region which may not have augured well. But the only thing that can make Ghana peaceful and end armed robbery is COP Kofi Boakye. You can mark it on a wall,” Computer Man stated while sharing his view on the recent robbery cases including two separate attacks on bullion vans.

Armed gunmen on Monday, June 14, 2021, attacked a bullion van at Jamestown in Accra.
The robbers after staging the attack in which they made away with some undisclosed amount left dead a police officer who was on escort duty in the attacked van and a trader who was a resident in the vicinity.

On the next Tuesday after the Jamestown attack, another bullion van robbery incident was staged on the Accra -Winneba Road.

Unlike the Jamestown incident, the Accra-Winneba Road attack was unsuccessful as the robbers failed to stop the van despite their firing of several gunshots.

The two broad daylight robbery attacks coupled with other gun-related crimes recorded over the past few weeks has led many Ghanaians to raise concern over the level of security in the country.

Some Security Analyst including Mr Adam Bonaa have called for the resignation of the current Inspector General of Police.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo

What looked like a romantic father’s day message to her husband, President Nana Akufo-Addo, turned sour as Ghanaian social media users directed their anger on first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

She took to social media Sunday to praise her husband on father’s day and expressed how proud she was that Nana Akufo-Addo was working to make things work in the country.

“Over the last four years having watched and prayed for my husband as father of the nation, I have had a close view of the sleepless nights, the countless overstretches and the physical strain to make this country work,” she stated in his article.

Madam Akufo-Addo added, “President Akufo-Addo remains a father we all would be proud of.”

But the above message which was part of her goodwill message to the president has infuriated most Ghanaians who believe the nation is not on the right track, owning to the fact the cost of living is high in the country.

The first lady’s message coincided with an increment in fuel prices across the country– the more reason some Ghanaians descended on her.

Some asked if she was really in Ghana while others criticised Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for sleeping in public.

Below are some of the responses to the first lady’s father’s day message to her husband:
