Armed robbers, police in shootout at Kwashieman

The Police are on a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers, who engaged the police in a shootout at Kwashieman, Accra, on Sunday.

The suspects, who suffered gunshot wounds during the shootout reportedly snatched a Toyota Yaris taxi cab with registration number GW8215-20 from its owner, at Lapaz, in Accra.

The Accra Regional Police Command, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, who disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday, stated that the police were investigating the case.

She said last Sunday at about 1:30 am, the police patrol team had information that a taxi cab had been snatched from its owner by armed robbers at Lapaz.

DSP Tenge said when members of the team spotted the taxi cab at Kwashieman, they chased it, and occupants of the taxi fired gun shots at the police, and the police returned fire.

“However, one occupant jumped off the vehicle to escape police arrest and the driver also managed to flee,” she added.

DSP Tenge stated that the patrol team later found the taxi cab parked at Busia Junction, a suburb of Odorkor, Accra, and a search conducted revealed that the driver’s seat was ‘heavily’ soaked in blood.

She said the vehicle had been towed to the Odorkor Police Station, while the investigation continued.

DSP Tenge appealed to staff of health facilities and herbal clinics to report to the police, anybody who would visit there with gunshot wounds.

“It is highly suspected that, the driver was hit by police bullet so the police is appealing to health facilities to report suspicious persons with gunshot wounds to the police for prompt action,” She added.

DSP Tenge said in another development, the police has commenced investigations into impersonation and fraud case, involving a self-styled military man, Richard Walker.

She said the suspect, has been released on police enquiry bail with one surety.

DSP Tenge stated that an immigration officer reported to police that, in October 2020, a supposed military officer, Walker, collected GH¢8,000.00 from him under the guise of recruiting his friend into the Ghana Armed Forces.

DSP Tenge said the suspect after collecting the money from the immigration officer, failed to fufil his promise, and rather went into hiding.

Shesaid all efforts to retrieve the money from Walker proved futile, but he was last Sunday arrested at his hideout, at Tabora, in Accra.

DSP Tenge said the investigation revealed that the suspect is not a military officer, and GH¢2,000.00 has been retrieved from him.

Prophet Eric Amponsah, (Computer Man)

• Prophet Eric Amponsah has pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Nathan Kofi Boakye as IGP

• According to Computer Man, COP Kofi Boakye has the capacity to deal with crime-related activities recorded in the country

• He made the appeal while sharing his views on recent crimes witnessed in Ghana

The Founder and Leader of Hope Generation Ministry, Prophet Eric Amponsah, has made a passionate appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Nathan Kofi Boakye as the next Inspector General of Police.

Speaking in an interview with Oman Channel sighted by Ghanaweb, Prophet Amponsah touted the Head of Research and Planning for the Police Service as the only person viable of leading a police service capable of dealing with the recent rise in crimes.

“I will appeal to the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Danwka Akufo-Addo to appoint COP Kofi Boakye as IGP. Maybe COP Kofi Boakye between 2014 and 2016 supervised some arrests in the Ashanti Region which may not have augured well. But the only thing that can make Ghana peaceful and end armed robbery is COP Kofi Boakye. You can mark it on a wall,” Computer Man stated while sharing his view on the recent robbery cases including two separate attacks on bullion vans.

Armed gunmen on Monday, June 14, 2021, attacked a bullion van at Jamestown in Accra.
The robbers after staging the attack in which they made away with some undisclosed amount left dead a police officer who was on escort duty in the attacked van and a trader who was a resident in the vicinity.

On the next Tuesday after the Jamestown attack, another bullion van robbery incident was staged on the Accra -Winneba Road.

Unlike the Jamestown incident, the Accra-Winneba Road attack was unsuccessful as the robbers failed to stop the van despite their firing of several gunshots.

The two broad daylight robbery attacks coupled with other gun-related crimes recorded over the past few weeks has led many Ghanaians to raise concern over the level of security in the country.

Some Security Analyst including Mr Adam Bonaa have called for the resignation of the current Inspector General of Police.

Ghanaians on social media hound Rebecca Akufo-Addo over husband being ‘sleepless’

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo

What looked like a romantic father’s day message to her husband, President Nana Akufo-Addo, turned sour as Ghanaian social media users directed their anger on first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

She took to social media Sunday to praise her husband on father’s day and expressed how proud she was that Nana Akufo-Addo was working to make things work in the country.

“Over the last four years having watched and prayed for my husband as father of the nation, I have had a close view of the sleepless nights, the countless overstretches and the physical strain to make this country work,” she stated in his article.

Madam Akufo-Addo added, “President Akufo-Addo remains a father we all would be proud of.”

But the above message which was part of her goodwill message to the president has infuriated most Ghanaians who believe the nation is not on the right track, owning to the fact the cost of living is high in the country.

The first lady’s message coincided with an increment in fuel prices across the country– the more reason some Ghanaians descended on her.

Some asked if she was really in Ghana while others criticised Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for sleeping in public.

Below are some of the responses to the first lady’s father’s day message to her husband:
