Ghana FA issues warning to clubs, players, officials over engaging in forbidden games

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a warning to clubs, their players, referees, team officials and match commissioners to desist from engaging in games not sanctioned or approved by glutei association.

Clubs have been engaging in friendly games as part of preparation ahead of the forthcoming season.

But it appears those matches are not sanctioned by the nation’s football governing body, GFA as it is quoted in the association’s Statutes.

On Friday, the Ghana FA fired a warning to clubs, players and officials to abstain from engaging in any forbidden matches.

“Footballers and referees, in particular, must desist from playing in matches organised without the permission of the GFA.

The GFA Statutes, the Premier League Regulations and the Division One League Regulations and other regulations of the GFA forbids such behavoiur by clubs, players, match officials, etc They are not to play in tournaments by agents not approved or sanctioned by the GFA.

4. Forbidden Matches No club shall maintain any relations of a sporting nature with non-recognized entities such as non-affiliated clubs, third parties or with members that have been suspended or expelled.

5. Affiliated Associations 1. No match shall be played nor shall a competition be organized by an affiliated League club unless such a match or competition has been sanctioned by the GFA and the appropriate fee paid. 2. Clubs registered with the GFA directly or as affiliate members shall not organise any competition nor play matches against any other Ghanaian club or clubs registered with any other National Football Associations without the prior approval and consent of the GFA. No individual or organization shall organise a match or tournament involving Ghanaian clubs without prior approval by the GFA.

Referees are to note that they can be appointed for friendly and competitive matches only by the GFA Referees Committee and the Regional Football Associations.

Kotoko’s Emmanuel Gyamfi risks missing Hearts of Oak showdown

Asante Kotoko winger, Emmanuel Gyamfi, has been slapped with a charge by the Ghana Football Association for stamping on the face of Inter Allies forward Andy Akpe.

The 26-year-old winger was captured on camera in the matchday 29 game at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu stepping on the face of Akpe which was an off-the-ball incident.

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), said the winger has been charged for a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the FA’s regulations.

“Emmanuel Gyamfi: You: on 14th of June 2021, during the match between Inter Allies FC and your team at the Theatre of Dreams, did stamp player number 45 of Inter Allies (Andy Okpe) in an off-ball situation around the 65th minute of the game, an action which in the opinion on the association is an improper and likely to bring the game into disrepute,” the statement said.

Asante Kotoko recorded a 3-2 win on Monday at Dawu to level up points with Hearts of Oak with 53 points.

Gyamfi, Evans Adomako, and Andrew Appau got the goals for Kotoko, while Alex Aso and Andy Opke scored the consolation goals for Inter Allies.

Gyamfi is yet to respond to the charge but he risks missing Kotoko’s huge title-decider against Accra Hearts of Oak on matchday 31.

The Porcupine Warriors are scheduled to play against their bitter rivals, Hearts of Oak on June 27, a game that has been touted to decide the winner of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Great Olympics CEO handed a one-match ban

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has handed Mr. Olloboi Commodore a one-match ban and a fine of GHC2,000.

This follows an interview he granted to an Accra based radio station Happy FM where he said ‘if not for dubious officiating they (referring to Accra Hearts of Oak SC) wouldn’t be where they are now”.

According to the GFA, the comment was deemed to be ungentlemanly and likely to bring the game into disrepute adding that the comments made against the match officials were without proof.

Mr. Commodore in his written statement of defence pleaded guilty to the charge.

The punishments were in accordance with the Premier League Regulations, Article 38(8) (c) of the GFA Premier League Regulations,

He has also been asked to within three days use the same medium, to apologise to the Referees of the GFA and the entire Association, failing which he shall serve a further six months-ban.

Mr. Commodore has also been warned that any future misconduct shall receive a more severe punishment.

Ghana captain Andre Ayew, two others nominated for Player-Of-The-Year award

Ghana’s captain, Andre Ayew has been named in a three-man shortlist for the Footballer of the Year award for 2021 in Ghana.

Ayew ended the championship season in England as top scorer for Swansea City FC with 17 goals and four assists in the 2020-21 campaign.

Ayew, for a second year running, took his team to the playoffs of the English Championship but came short against Brentford FC in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus who won the 2020-21 Dutch Eredivisie and KNVB Cup is the other player based in Europe to be recognized for the upcoming awards which was launched on Wednesday afternoon in Accra.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian prodigy scored four goals and gave three assists in 17 matches in a season that he spent months on the sickbed.

Accra Great Olympics star, Gladson Awako has been nominated for the Ghana Footballer of the Year award for 2021 and is the only home-based player gaining for the award.

The 30-year-old versatile midfielder will battle, Ghana’s Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and AFC Ajax Amsterdam star, Mohammed Kudus for the prestigious award.

Awako has been the face of the Ghana Premier League season with a lightening display which earned him a Black Stars call-up.
