Educate public before implementing policies – Elmina chief to Akufo-Addo

The Paramount Chief of Elmina, Nana Kojo Konduah VI, has appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to run the needed education campaign whenever there is an introduction of new government policies.

He made the appeal in reference to the recent roll-out of the double-track system at Senior High Schools.

The chief was of the view that the distortions being peddled in relation to the policy could have been avoided if a massive education campaign had been carried out prior to the implementation.

Nana Kojo Konduah VI made the appeal in Elmina at the gathering of chiefs and people as part of the president’s 4-day tour of the region to cut sod for the construction of the coastal development enclave.

The chief also expressed worry about the insanitary conditions in the country, attributing it to indiscipline.

He further appealed to the president to ensure that the Minister of Sanitation directs supermarkets across the country, to initiate the use of paper bag carriers to reduce plastic pollution.

On the recent attempted ban on fishing, the chief said the policy lacked the needed consultation, hence the resistance.

According to Nana Konduah, some fishing groups, after serious consultations, have suggested that the ban be implemented from the third week of May to the third week of June, since fishing activities during those months are not encouraging.

President Akufo-Addo, in response, promised to investigate the issues to help protect local fishermen and the Ghanaian coast. He assured the chief of government’s commitment to assist him do his work as sanitation ambassador.
