Serial Callers for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region have expressed disappointment in the leadership of the party over monies they say they have kept for themselves.
Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Serial Callers Association, Wofa Anokye, speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam Thursday said they sacrificed their resources to campaign for the party to win in the 2016 elections but continue to be shortchanged by leaders even in government.
The party hierarchy, he said dispatched GH¢90,000 to be shared among the serial callers in the region but claimed only GH¢7,000 of the amount actually got to them.
The development, he noted, has provoked them hence they are demanding for the remaining money or they halt their activities in the region.
“Our leaders have taken us for granted for far too long and it’s time to show them how bitter we are. We are tired of them. How can we work for the party to come to power only for a few people to be “pocketing” our money as though we are nothing,” he said.
According to him, despite their contributions to the party’s victory in the 2016 polls, over sixty-two of their members are struggling to make ends meet while their regional executives and government appointees in the region are living in comfort.
Wofa Anokye said they have declared an indefinite boycott of all party communication activities on radio in the region.
They have also warned members in the region to desist from calling or texting into local radio stations to defend the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The disappointed NPP serial callers say they have been forced to burn every communication gadget the party procured for them.
But responding to the allegations on the same show, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah described the actions of the serial callers as ‘senseless and disgusting’.
According to him, the serial callers are only being ungrateful.
“I’m very disappointed in these men. What do you hope to gain after burning your phones and striking? I have done all I could to make sure that you are taken good care of so why don’t you use the right process to express your displeasure,” he said.
