MPs rooting for Mahama are opportunists – Allotey Jacobs

Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said some 94 Members of Parliament who have endorsed former President John Mahama are ‘opportunists’.

He explained that, they have formed the supposed MPs4JM just to claim credit should he be made the flagbearer of the party ahead of its flagbearership election.

Former President Mahama’s ambition to lead his party into the 2020 elections received a major boost after the 94 lead by Dr. Clement Apaak and Nii Lante Vanderpuye vowed to champion the campaign in Parliament for his return.

They have already led a signature-collection spree to shore up support ahead of presidential primaries of the NDC.

But Allotey Jacobs on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said, Mr. Mahama is now an institution in the NDC hence does not need the support of anyone to win.

He explained that, 99 percent of the elected executives of the NDC in the regions are with John Mahama and will vote for him on anyway.

“MPs endorsement is political opportunism and John Mahama does not need it” he stated.

The Central Region NDC Chairman is certain former President Mahama will get 100 percent vote from his region and emerge the flagbearer of the NDC.

He maintained that, John Mahama is the best bet for the NDC if it really wants to recapture power in the 2020 general elections.

Allotey Jacobs added that, those lacing their boots to contest former President Mahama just want to be considered as running mates.
