I am the politician who keeps, delivers on promises – Akufo-Addo

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has asserted that he is not a politician who turns away from campaign promises.

Speaking at a durbar of Chiefs and people in the middle belt of the Volta Region in Hohoe, during his tour of the region, President Akufo-Addo stated he has began delivering on his promises to exhibit to Ghanaians that “not all politicians are the same”.

“Some of the politicians when they give a promise, they mean it and will keep it and one of them is me Nana Akufo-Addo,” he stressed.

He touted the establishment of the Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCO), expected to employ 100,000 young graduates to assist in service delivery in the public sector, reduction in electricity tariff, Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs among others as promises he has delivered on.

He added that government aims at registering 1 million farmers under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme by 2020 to increase productivity of farmers across the country.

“This year we are extending the programme from 200,000 to 500,000 farmers. My target is that by the end of the four years, it will be 1 million farmers who will be in the programme for planting for food and jobs.”

President Akufo-Addo also assured of his commitment to complete construction of the deplorable Eastern Corridor Road as promised during the 2016 electioneering.

“In 2016, when we were on the campaign, I came here, I also went to the Western Region… President Mahama was saying that the period of his office has seen infrastructure development that we have never seen in Ghana before, Unprecedented infrastructure development, I hope you remember this expression?”

“And I said I don’t see this unprecedented development, anywhere I go, am on bad roads. He said ‘I was asleep on the roads and that’s why I didn’t see the good development that had taken place.’ Today I’ve come on the Eastern Corridor Road and I didn’t sleep, I couldn’t sleep, gbogboom, gbogboom, gbogboom, how can I sleep on this [bad] road?”

“That’s why I want to go out and see for myself what is happening, We are going to fix it, Kwasi Amoako-Atta [Roads Minister] is going to fix it. We are going to fix it and it will not be for anybody to determine whether somebody is asleep or not asleep. They will see that the road has been fixed.”
