Supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman aspirant, Stephen Ayesu Ntim has been beaten to pulp at the party’s congress grounds at Koforidua in the Eastern region.
According to reports, his bodyguards and personal assistants were attacked at the security checkpoint to the congress grounds.
Adom News presenter, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, who witnessed the beating said the attack happened when Mr Ntim arrived at the venue.
He indicated that some known members of the NPP who support another candidate attacked Steve Ntim’s supporters and prevented them from entering the congress grounds.
Omanhene said the personal assistant of the Chairman hopeful sustained injuries as he was carried and thrown out.
Steve Ntim faces stiff opposition from acting Chairman, Freddie Blay for the Chairmanship position.
The position has been made quite popular by Mr Blay and Mr Ntim as the former prepares to hand over some 275 buses he has purchased for all constituencies.
But Mr Ntim who is contesting for the position for the fourth time finds the gesture inappropriate.
This notwithstanding, he is sure of a landslide victory at the end of the day.
Some 6,000 delegates from 275 constituencies are expected at the Koforidua Technical University Park where the new officials will be elected to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
Positions to be contested are; National Chairperson – First, Second and Third-, General Secretary, National Treasurer and National Organiser.
The rest are National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser and National Nasara Coordinator.
