At least 20 communities in the Savelugu municipality of the Northern Region have been listed for the construction of 20 dams under government’s One Village-One Dam (1V-1D) initiative.
Feasibility studies by engineers have been concluded on communities like Nyeko, Bunglung, Libga, Diare, and Nanton-Kurugu and submitted to the Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP) for work to commence.
According to the Savelugu Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, work will begin soon in all 20 communities.
She said the initiative makes an imperative case for residents in the area, to embrace and support government’s quest to develop the area.
Addressing a town hall meeting on Tuesday, 26 June 2018, the MCE expressed the belief that the construction of the dams and dug-outs will provide reliable supply of water to the rural communities for farming and other purposes.
Hajia Ayishetu further disclosed that a parcel of land has been acquired for the establishment of a sugar processing factory in the area as part of the One District-One Factory programme.
She said there are plans by some investors to set up a tomato processing factory at Nabogu as well as an oil processing plant and poultry feed factory in the municipality.
