Anyidoho defends Anita Desoso for begging Rawlings

Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has defended the party’s National Vice Chairperson, Anita Desosoo decision to apologise to the founder of the party on behalf of other executives.

Anita Desoso on Monday knelt and begged Jerry John Rawlings to forgive executives of the party who have offended him.

According to Koku Anyidoho, Desoso did no wrong by taking such action.

“It was a party event for which the national chairman and leader of the party, Kofi Portuphy was supposed to speak and in his absence, Anita spoke. She said going forward and building consensus and having a meeting of minds if it is a case that we have offended you, we apologise. What is wrong with that?”

“If you are a leader, be prepared to say I’m sorry. If you are a child, be prepared to say daddy I’m sorry. So I will take this opportunity on behalf of the party to kneel down before my dad [Rawlings]. Please forgive us. Let’s come together to build this country,” she pleaded.

Jerry Rawlings who is also the founder of the NDC refused to campaign for the party during the 2016 general elections.

Rawlings decided because he felt the current crop of NDC leaders had moved away from the party’s ideals which included transparency, probity and accountability.

“…Now to my father, I know [as] your children we have erred, and I also know that you are a human being. You have also done something that may not be right. And I was so happy when you brought out a statement rendering an apology. You are a hero. This shows that what you have thought me is still within me,” Desoso added.

She knelt before Rawlings in Accra when the party marked the 39th anniversary of the June 4 uprising.

Anita Desosoo also urged Rawlings to let bygones be bygones

‘I didn’t say Akufo-Addo cannot shower in Presidential jet’ – Defence Minister defends his statement

Dominic Nitiwul 1024x697Dominic Nitiwul, Defence Minister

Thu, 17 Jun 2021Source:

• Dominic Nitiwul says his comments was misreported by the media

• He said, the private luxurious jet was hired thinking of the President’s safety

• He claims even though the Presidential jet is airworthy, it has some challenges

Dominic Nitiwul has debunked reports that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addowanted to take his shower that is why the country decided to hire the luxurious £15,000 per hour private jet for his recent trip abroad.

According to him, the G-Kelt aircraft was hired for the President to travel in because of his safety and that of his crew because the Presidential jet recently had some challenges.

The Defence Minister came under attack when he told Parliamentarians that the presidential jet was not conducive and presented many challenges when the President was embarking on his 10-day foreign travel.

He stated that despite the Falcon jet being airworthy, it lacked certain facilities like a washroom and it could contain less of the President’s entourage.

“This aircraft will carry a load of 11 passengers minus the crew. When this aircraft is travelling to the eastern part of the United States of America or Asia, it will not load a crew of more than eight plus the luggage.

In fact, the President would also have to go a day ahead because no president can shower in this aircraft. He cannot move from this aircraft straight into a meeting,” he stated.

This, the Defence Minister claims, was misreported by the media.

GhanaWeb monitored Dominic Nitiwul’s explanation on Joy FM where he said:

“What we looked at was the safety of the passengers and the crew, not the amount involved in it. That is the first thing we look out for before we look at other factors. It doesn’t mean we don’t look at the amount but what we look at first is the safety of passengers. When it comes to the choice of the President’s travel, it is a schedule. It is determined by two groups of people; National Security and the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

Also, in this COVID era, when you are travelling to multiple destinations like the President’s recent trip, the Falcon jet couldn’t have been taken because we would have had to do technical stuff which is not desirable. When he is travelling with more than 20 people like he has been doing that has brought huge sums of money to this country, the President may need not just the Falcon.

At no point did I ever say that President Akufo-Addo cannot shower that is why he used the G-Kelt aircraft.”

He stated that the decision was taken by the government in order not to incur any additional costs if the presidential jet had been used because the team that travelled with the President would have been flown earlier and camped at a hotel which would come at a cost before the President arrives.

“I said that when a President has to travel like that it is unwise to use a small aircraft because the entire team has to travel two or three days before to wait for the President. The hotel bills alone cumulatively add up to the state and it is more expensive,” Dominic Nitiwul explained further.

VIDEO: FDA closed down Shoprite’s meat section at Accra Mall

Frozen Meat 9FDA has also fined Shoprite for mislabeling their product

• The meat section of Shoprite has been closed down

• The reason is for selling imported frozen chicken

• FDA has also fined Shoprite for mislabeling their product

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Tuesday, June 15, closed down the meat section of Shoprite at the Accra Mall.

According to the Deputy Chief Executive of the FDA, Akua Amartey, Shoprite was selling imported frozen chicken as locally produced chicken.

She furthered that the mislabeling of the chicken by Shoprite apart from deceiving its customers also has health implications on consumers.

Akua Amartey disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority has fined Shoprite for engaging in such an act.

Akua Amartey in explaining the action taken by the FDA said, “It came to our attention that they actually label frozen chicken that they thaw as fresh chicken, and that is against the Public Health Act…Apart from it being deception, it also has some health implications, because we all know that you don’t actually thaw a frozen product and then put it back into the freezer for it to freeze.”

“The FDA has given an administrative fine to pay that is going to make it punitive for them not to repeat such an action,” Akua Amartey said.

Akua Amartey noted that the FDA will visit other branches of Shoprite to check on their goods to ensure the safety of customers.
