Police have arrested 121 undocumented foreign nationals and 26 wanted suspects during a major crime-fighting operation in Sekhukhune, Limpopo.
The arrests were made on 8 August 2026 during Operation Shanela II–Retshepheng, which was conducted in the Apel and Mecklenburg areas.
The operation targeted several criminal activities, including illegal immigration, illegal mining and other offences affecting communities in the area.
According to police, officers also seized 22 items believed to be linked to illegal mining activities during the operation.
Traffic law enforcement formed part of the operation as well, with officials issuing 10 summonses with a combined value of R21,500.
The latest arrests form part of ongoing police operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks and addressing illegal activities in communities across the province.
Illegal mining remains a significant challenge in parts of Limpopo and other mining regions, with authorities continuing to conduct operations targeting individuals and groups allegedly involved in the illegal extraction of minerals.
The arrest of wanted suspects during the operation also highlights the role of coordinated policing in tracking down people sought in connection with various offences.
Authorities have continued to call on members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement and provide information that could assist investigations and help combat criminal activity.
